Planes, Trains & Automobiles

We love Chicago, but sometimes it is a beast to get to! Here are some helpful tips to make your travel a breeze:

If you’ll be joining us from a distance in Chicago at one of the international airports (O’Hare oe Midway), here are some great options to get to the Hyatt Regency:

Domestic Arrivals at O’Hare International Airport:

Train: Train access is from the baggage claim area below Terminal 2 (follow signs to C.T.A. Trains to City). Take “L-Train – Blue Line” to Clark & Lake stop (approx. 7 blocks from hotel). Walk East on Lake to Stetson St, turn left on Stetson St and walk 1 block to the hotel. Note: This method is not recommended if guest has more than 1 bag, as there are numerous escalators and turn-styles. Guest can take a cab from Clark/Lake stop.  One way rides regardless of distance are $2.25.  Secure fare at one of the Ventra fare terminals.

If you do not wish to hail a cab you can walk one street to the right from the ext to LaSalle Street.  Turn right and head toward and across the river.   Once across the river turn right and proceed down to the riverwalk to board the water taxi and take it to the magnificient mile stop for a $3 fare.  https://www.chicagowatertaxi.com/lasalle-riverwalk/

Rental Car:  After retrieving your luggage from baggage claim proceed to the upper level and locate the Airport Transit System Tram and take it in the direction of Remote Parking.  The Rental Car facility is located at the stop immediately after International Terminal Number 5.  Once you have secured your vehicle follow the signs to the I-190 East / I-90 East Expressway to Chicago.  Continue on I-90 (The Kennedy Expressway) East to the Ohio St exit.  Use the right two lanes to  proceed on Ohio to State and continue on Ohio until LaSalle. Turn right.  continue on Lasalle over the river and Turn left at Wacker Drive. Stay in the left lanes to remain on upper Wacker drive until you arrive at the hotel.

Taxi:  If you do decide to cab it in plan on a $45 dollar fare from O’hare or of course share a ride and get to know a fellow podcaster.  Uber should be available at the airport but will have a $5 fee above the fare.

Traffic may be bad given it is a work week and the Taste of Chicago is taking place so to save headache and cash the train is the preferred method.

Arriving by Amtrak or Metra Trains

Amtrak/Metra Union Station: The majority of Union station is below street level so navigating inside of union station is a bit complex.  Best course of action is follow the flow of people away from the platform and go UP as much as possible (stairs or escalators will do, rope climbing is frowned upon).  Eventually when you are on the main level you want to proceed to the Adams Street or Jackson Street entrances to get outside.   You will be created by the beautiful Chicago River.   From here you can hail a taxi or an Uber to take you to the hotel as it is a pretty hefty hike with luggage.    It is a work week so the commuters will be in full force and The Taste of Chicago will be in full swing so festival goers will also be amongst the crowd. Allow plenty of time to secure transportation outside of the facility.   If you are up for the adventure (especially you architecture or travel podcast types) go to the opposite side of the river from where you are now and head north.  (Right as you face the river on the other side) follow the river all the way to the Lake keeping the river on your left until you arrive at Wacker and Stetson.

Water Taxi: For an easy escape walk a few blocks north along the river (left as you face the river) to Madison street.  Cross Madison and on the right outside a set of revolving doors is the Chicago Water Taxi Station.   The Chicago Water Taxi has a $3 one way fare or an $8 ride all day pass.  Find some fellow podcasters and get a 10 ride ticket for $17.50.  Take the water taxi from Ogilvie to the Magnificent Mile Stop. which will be underground. on the north side of the river. Get topside and then cross the river on Michigan.  Once across turn left on Wacker and head east to the Hotel 1 more block on the corner of Stetson and Wacker.

Arriving by Suburban Metra Trains

Metra Ogilvie Transportation Center:  Mostly for locals, Suburban Hotel, or Air BNB users.  If you are arriving on a Union Pacific Metra line you will arrive at Ogilvie.  If you wish to hail a cab continue to the end of the platform to the revolving doors.  Head down the escalators and continue straight until you reach the street and hail a taxi or Uber from there.  It is a pretty good hike with bags so walking is not suggested.  But if you are up for it turn left and head toward the river. Once across the river follow the river all the way to the Lake keeping the river on your left until you arrive at Wacker and Stetson.

Water Taxi: For an easy escape stay on the 2nd level as you exit the train platform walking around the escalators and heading left across the sky bridge.  Continue through the next building and out the revolving doors.  Directly in front of you is the The Chicago Water Taxi.

Parking at the hotel is SUPER EXPENSIVE! If you must drive we have negotiated special PM16 rates through Parking Panda at  https://www.parkingpanda.com/podcast-movement-parking?ref=chipod .  You will be able to pre purchase parking at a much reduced fare within walking distance of the hotel.   The Hotel is located on Stetson and Wacker in downtown Chicago as you look to locate a spot.  Happy Hunting!
